Suitcases are a pain. they take up a lot of space, they don’t fit easily in a cupboard, and you never have exactly the right size.
Or maybe you can’t quite part with the backpack that you Kontiki’d around Europe with when you were 18, even though you’ve since bought a better one for hiking?
We’ve rationalised to a hardshell each, a wheelie bag which we share. The rest (anything not breakable) goes into soft nylon barrel bags which squish down into the wheelie bag when not in use.
Between uses the wheelie bag lives in one of the hardshell suitcases, and the camping gear (including the aforementioned Kontiki backpack which I haven’t persuaded him to part with) lives in the other.
If you have the suitcase with the dreaded broken wheel (I know, I shouldn’t have let the toddler ride on it), dump it. I’ve tried to get one fixed, and costs more than the suitcase.
