Why backing up my computer saved the 4 year-old’s bacon

Young buster just re-set my laptop password.  The night before a one day intensive course that I’d done a LOT of prep for.

Anyone who has been to one of my courses will have heard me bang on and on (and on and on) about backing up computers, and using an automated backup so it actually HAPPENS rather than trying to remember to buy and attach a backup device.  Without access to your data  a computer is a really expensive form of clutter.

Because I use SkyDrive which automatically backs up my files as I go along, I was able to dig out the old laptop, access all my data (including all the prep for tomorrow) and find the information on how to undo young Buster’s handiwork.

If you don’t backup regularly (like weekly or at least monthly) please consider using either www.skydrive.com or iCloud.com (mac users).    Please don’t let your computer become clutter.

Buster can live to fight another day.  God help the grandparents who are babysitting him tomorrow.
